Francis Victor O’Malley, age 86, of Bethlehem Township, PA passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospice House.
Born on June 8, 1937, in the Borough of Queens, NYC, to John and Kathleen (Knightly) O’Malley of County Kerry, Ireland, Francis was baptized at St. Clare’s R.C. Church in Rosedale, NY. He was raised in Jamaica, Queens, where he enjoyed playing in youth baseball leagues and free-spirited shenanigans. From adolescence, he worked alongside his father as a contractor and factotum, a profession he continued until his retirement.
Francis and his beloved wife, Maria Patricia (Jones) of Peapack, NJ were united in marriage at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bernardsville, NJ, on September 12, 1964. They settled in Union City, NJ, where they raised their four children before retiring to Bethlehem Township, PA.
Known as a Jack-of-all-Trades with a diverse range of interests, Francis, in his retirement, enjoyed exploring the Internet for informative articles, quirky factoids, and amusing news, which he loved sharing with his family. In his later years, he took a profound interest in his family’s lives, particularly his grandchildren, becoming a cherished source of connection and family updates. His wit and humor will be dearly missed.
A devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bethlehem, Francis held a special reverence for the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Francis leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Maria Patricia; his children Victor O’Malley and his wife Anastasia, Marie (O’Malley) and her husband Edison Cabrera, Rvd. Dr. Mark Francis O’Malley, and Dr. Sean O’Malley and his wife Anna; his grandchildren, Rebecca (Cabrera) and her husband Christopher Rodrigues, Lauren Cabrera and her fiancé Anthony Nittoli, Sofia O’Malley, Lydia O’Malley, and Abigail O’Malley; and his great-granddaughter, Cecilia Rodrigues. He is survived by his siblings, Nellie O’Malley, Patrick O’Malley, and Michael O’Malley, and was predeceased by his siblings, Joan (O’Malley) Connors, Thomas O’Malley, and John O’Malley.
A Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Finegan Funeral Home, 4080 William Penn Highway, Easton, PA. Requiem Mass and Interment will be held privately.
