Thomas J. O’Connor, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 19, 2024, at the age of 84. Born in Ireland on October 9, 1939, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Lucy) O’Connor. He was the loving husband of Bernadette (Ciorca) O’Connor for 57 years. Thomas lived a life filled with devotion to his family, professional achievement, and enjoyment of his passions.
Upon immigrating to New York in 1958, Thomas served in the United States Army and then became a naturalized citizen in 1964.
After the army, Thomas started his first professional career as a clerk at the Equitable Life Insurance Company. In 1980, Thomas and family moved to Easton PA, where he was soon promoted to Vice President of Data Center Operations. Thomas retired from Equitable (Cigna) in 1993. Following a brief retirement, Thomas opened a real estate appraisal business, where he worked alongside his sons until 2010.
Thomas was a man of faith and a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Easton. He cherished his family above all else, and his love for them was evident in everything he did. In addition to his beloved wife, Bernadette, he is survived by his children Sean, Karen (Bianca), Thomas (Azizah), and Elizabeth (Shauna), and his grandchildren Damian, Griffin, Thomas and Indira. Thomas is also survived by his brother Brendan, and sisters, Abigail Bowe and Irene Harney. As well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, all who will deeply miss his warm smile and kind heart.
A dedicated enthusiast of golf and racehorses, Thomas found joy and camaraderie on the greens and in the racetrack. One of his proudest moments on the golf course was getting a hole in one at Woodland Hills. His passion for these activities was matched only by his zest for life and his enduring spirit.
Thomas’ memory will live on through his family and the many lives he touched. Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Sunday July 28, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Finegan Funeral Home, 4080 William Penn Highway, Easton, PA. A Funeral Mass will be held at St Jane’s Church on Monday July 29, 2024 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s (www.stjude.org).
