Joyce P. Hanlon Obituary

Joyce P. Hanlon, 90, of Bethlehem Township, PA, and formerly of Easton, PA, passed away while surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 5, 2024.

Born in Wind Gap, PA, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Tucker and Mary (Rissmiller) Riegel. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hanlon, who passed in 1975 and her longtime companion, Mark Eckert, who passed in 2003.

Joyce was known for her creativity, hard work, and passion for the arts.  She was a 1952 graduate of Easton Area High School, and later studied at the Baum Art School.  In her early years, she was a colorist at Rembrandt Studio.  Joyce was the proprietor of Hanlon Ceramic shop, which she later developed into Hanlon House Gift and Flower shop.  In 1997, Joyce helped restore the historic Herschell Carousel at Bushkill Park.  As an artist, Joyce loved painting flowers and local landmarks, and she was involved in many local art clubs and art shows.  Joyce’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy lives on through her family and the many lives she touched with her artwork.

Joyce is survived by her son, Richard Hanlon and his husband, Lenny McCawley, of Virginia Beach, VA, her son in law, Bryan Barrett, of Palmer Township, PA, her grandchildren, Andrea Barrett, of Palmer Township, PA, and Andrew Barrett, of Wilkes-Barre, PA, her great-grandchildren; Dylan, Tyler and Natalie Zwicker and Alice Barrett, her sister, Shirley Krock, of Nazareth, PA, and her nieces and nephews. Joyce was also predeceased by her daughter, Colleen Barrett, who passed in 2013 and her sister, Elayne Planer.

A Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at the Finegan Funeral Home, 4080 William Penn Highway, Easton, PA, with a Funeral Service scheduled for 11:00 AM the following morning, Friday, September 13, 2024, at the First United Church of Christ, 229 Church Street, Easton, PA. The interment will then be at the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Township, PA.
