Troy (Mike) Michael Unger, Sr., of Easton, PA, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2025.
Mike, as he was better known, was born on February 2, 1962, at the Naval Medical Center, in Norfolk, VA, to Marshall and Margret Unger. As a child, Mike frequently moved due to his father’s Naval service and he would later follow in his father’s footsteps and serve proudly in the United States Navy, eventually returning home with an honorable discharge.
Making his way to Easton, PA, he met Tina (Knecht). They would have Mike’s only child Troy Jr., who is the spitting image of his father and whom Mike was extremely proud of. The family would eventually separate but would be reunited in 2013, which is when Mike first met his biological grandson, Dominic, with whom he shared a love of playing guitar. Given a second chance, Tina and Mike married in September of 2018, going on to help Tina, who is raising her grandchildren, Emily, Travis and Jamie, who he dotted on regularly.
Mike, a recovering alcoholic, would be celebrating two years of sobriety this spring. Mike’s sobriety was owed, in large part, to the help he found at The Victory House, in Bethlehem, PA, and he would stay on to become a valued and beloved employee there. Mike also volunteered at the Bethlehem Emergency Shelter.
Mike is survived by his wife, Tina, his son, Troy Jr. and his wife, Jenalyn, his grandson, Dominic and his step-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his beloved parents Marshall and Margaret, as well as his siblings, Marshall Unger, Jr. and Kimberly O’Neal, both of Alabama and Tina Strickland, of Florida.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for Mike by The Victory House and Family, details to follow.
The Finegan Funeral Home of Easton, PA, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
A Go fund me has been set up to help the family with funeral costs and we ask donations be sent there, via gofund.me/180e8661 or to the Victory House, via victoryhouselv.harnessgiving.org/donate.
