Thomas “Sam” R. Jones, 79, of Forks Township, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Thomas was born on June 11, 1946, in Plymouth, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Rachael (McElwee) Jones. Sam graduated from Plymouth High School in Plymouth, PA.
Sam proudly served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969. During his deployment in Vietnam, he worked as a ground radio operator, maintaining communication with forward air controllers and coordinating targets for air strikes. For his service, Sam was awarded the Bronze Star, the U.S. Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
An avid outdoorsman, Sam was passionate about hunting and fishing. His deep expertise in the field led to frequent appearances on Pennsylvania Outdoor Life on WNEP-TV, was featured in numerous local newspaper articles and was a highly sought-after turkey hunting guide.
Following his military service, Sam built a successful career in the information technology field. He worked as a project manager for several major companies, including Bell of Pennsylvania, Avaya, Lucent, AT&T, and IBM.
Sam is survived by his wife, Gail M. (Bonawits) Jones, his daughters, Amy Spitler and her husband, Scott and Karen McDaniel, his grandchildren, Emily and Aiden Spitler and Riley McDaniel, his brother, Donald Jones and his wife, Martha and his many nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours are scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at the Finegan Funeral Home, 4080 William Penn Highway, Easton, PA, with a Memorial Service to directly follow.
