David Freeman, 76, of Alpha, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025. Born on March 11, 1949, in Holden, Massachusetts, David lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a quiet but profound sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.
A proud Army veteran, David served his country with courage and honor during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he continued to make a difference as a dedicated member of the New Jersey Corrections system, where he worked for 25 years. Throughout his career, David was known for being humble, honest, and always ready to lend a helping hand.
David’s most cherished passion was supporting his children. Whatever activities they pursued, they became his own, and he took immense pride and joy in being an enthusiastic presence in their lives. Whether on the sidelines at sporting events or cheering from the audience at recitals and school plays, David’s devotion to his family was steadfast and inspiring. David is survived by his two children, BJ Freeman and Ali, and Kate Silverthorn and her husband, Stephen, as well as his granddaughter, Shannon Freeman.
Friends and colleagues remember David for his unwavering generosity and kindness with his time. He was always ready with a good joke, a helping hand, or a word of support, and he carried himself with a sense of modesty about his many accomplishments. An enduring legacy of kindness, humor, and service will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
At David’s request, no formal services will be held. In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in David’s memory to The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
