Elwood “Woody” J. Weppel, Jr., of Easton, PA, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in St. Luke’s Hospital Anderson Campus, Easton, PA.
Born on December 16, 1939, in Easton, PA, he was the son of the late Elwood J. Weppel, Sr., and Madelyn E. Bellis Weppel.
Elwood resided with his companion, Marlise Leichtenstern, for over 20 years until his death. Elwood worked as a draftsman for 18 years before starting his job driving bus for the Lanta Bus Company. He retired from that job after 27 years of driving. After retiring, Elwood moved to Sarasota, FL, for two and a half years before returning back to Easton again.
Elwood is survived by his son, Elwood J. Weppel, III, and his wife, Annette, of Orlando, FL, his three grandchildren, Jessica Mays, Elwood Weppel, IV, and Zachary Weppel, his five great-grandchildren; Brooklyn, Blayke, Autumn, Kaiya and Rory, his two brothers, James Weppel and his wife Brenda, of Palmer Twp., PA and Robert Weppel, of Easton, PA, his sisters, Mary Catherine Bashelor, of Seaford, DE, and Dareen DeVine and her husband, Robert, of Selinsgrove, PA and his nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Elwood was predeceased by his sister, Louise Gerlach and her husband, Bill.
Elwood was a member of the St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church, in Palmer Twp., PA and he was a life member of The Fleas Club, Citizens Hose, West Easton Fire Co. and the Palmer Fire Co. He was an avid poker player and loved going to Atlantic City, NJ, and playing cards. Watching football was his one sport event, he loved Penn State and the Philadelphia Eagles, and would also cheer on the Philadelphia Phillies. Years ago, he was an avid bowler, quoit pitcher and golfer.
A Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Finegan Funeral Home, 4080 William Penn Highway, Palmer Twp., PA, with an additional Viewing Period at the funeral home the following morning, Friday, August 9, 2024, from 10:45 to 11:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will then follow at 12:30 PM at the St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church, 4049 Hartley Avenue, Palmer Twp., PA, 18045. The interment will be at the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp., PA.
Donations may be made, in Elwood’s name, to the St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church.
