John Michael Kinney, 75, of Bethlehem Township, PA, passed away after an extended battle with cancer while in the comfort of his own home on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
Born in Phillipsburg, NJ, on September 27, 1949, he was the son of the late Albert and Mary (Sames) Kinney.
John was a 1967 graduate of Palisades High school, where he played soccer and was in a local band named The Sweet Corn, performing on the drums. He served in the US Army from 1969 to 1972, with a deployment to Vietnam from April of 1970 to April of 1971, earning the rank of Sergeant. His first wife, Phylis and he were married for 28 years and raised three children in Milford, NJ and then Phillipsburg, NJ, before her death in 1999. He was lucky enough to find a second great love and married Joleone in 2003. He was employed as an electronics technician at Electrosort Automation, in New Jersey. And then an electrician with Kay’s Electric before being owner operator of Chandler Estate in Wind Gap with his wife, Joleone. He retired in 2014. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of The Flintstones Gold Club at Green Pond Country Club. He traveled to Ocean City Maryland every June for an annual golf tournament. He and his wife, Joleone, enjoyed traveling and had visited France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Canada and Alaska along with many cruises to several Caribbean destinations. John was an avid Eagles fan. He was also an amateur brew master, creating darker lagers for friends and family. But his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Joleone (Marden) Kinney, his children; Joshua Kinney and his wife, Tina, of Nazareth, PA, Amanda Gigliotti and her husband, Joe, of Palmer Township, PA, Zachary Kinney, of Allentown, PA and Alicen Arnold and her husband, Stephen, of Walnutport, PA, his grandchildren; Dylan, Noah, Adalyn, Bethany and Zoey, his siblings, Pat Vorhees, Sue Freeman and Jeff Kinney and his nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his first wife, Phylis (Erwin) Kinney, who passed in 1999 and his sister, Lillian Higginbotham.
Calling Hours are scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at the Finegan Funeral Home, 4080 William Penn Highway, Easton, PA, with a Memorial Service to immediately follow. The inurnment will then be at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Alexandria Township, NJ.
