John Stewart Fritts, 73, of Phillipsburg NJ, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 18th 2024. He is survived by his companion of many years, Diane Thomas, Sisters Doris Ann Timmeney and Elizabeth Ann Deal, Daughter Melissa Iatarola and her husband Michael Iatarola, son Michael Fritts and his wife Kimberly Fritts, grandchildren Christopher Fritts (17), Adam Fritts (13), Isabella Iatarola (10), and Jake Iatarola (8). He was pre-deceased by his father, Leroy H. Fritts and mother Doris Ann Fritts.
John was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Belvidere High School class of 1968 and graduated from the Newark College of Engineering in 1972. John and his father were custom home builders through the early 1990s, after which John was employed by Norton Partnership. John was a long time zoning officer in Harmony Township and became a Construction Official in Lopatcong Township until he retired in 2017. After his “retirement”, he continued to serve the Boroughs of Washington, Alpha, and Town of Phillipsburg. He was a founding member of Saddle Hill Associates in upstate New York. He loved his “Ultimate Driving Machines”, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and annual trips to Daytona Bike Week. He loved playing golf with his family and friends, participated in the Bethlehem Steel Carpenters Golf League, and took countless golf trips to Harrisonburg Virginia & Ocean City Maryland. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to just about anyone and volunteered a tremendous amount of time to the Harmony Township Lions Club and Pilgrim Presbyterian Church.
Services will take place at Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, 750 Belvidere Rd., Phillipsburg, NJ , on Thursday February 22nd, 2024. Calling hours from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am.
