Martin J. Howard Jr. (“Marty”)
Martin J. Howard Jr., lovingly known to family and friends as “Marty,” “Father Martin,” and “Howie,” passed away surrounded by the love of his family. A proud veteran, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and loyal friend, Martin lived a life marked by resilience, dedication, humor, and deep love for those closest to him.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Martin grew up with the unmistakable spirit and energy of the city he always carried with him. In his youth, he was a natural athlete and an accomplished varsity swimmer who could often be found playing basketball and stickball with friends throughout the neighborhood. His competitive spirit, charisma, and love of camaraderie stayed with him throughout his life.
At a young age, Martin answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served honorably on the front lines in active combat, demonstrating extraordinary courage and strength. Martin remained deeply proud of his military service throughout his life and was a dedicated member of the American Legion, where he shared friendship and fellowship with fellow veterans.
Following his return home from Vietnam, Martin built a successful career in finance, working on Wall Street for many years. He was admired for his determination, strong work ethic, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Martin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise A. Howard, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories. Their enduring bond and the family they built together remained one of the greatest sources of pride in his life.
Martin leaves behind his loving and treasured wife, Ann Howard; his devoted daughter, Dawn Howard-Mistry, and son-in-law, Nirav Mistry; and his cherished grandchildren, Ella and Kieran Mistry, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. He also leaves behind his dearly loved stepdaughters, Tracey Corulla and her husband, Gene Corulla, and Sandie Weaver, as well as his beloved siblings, Lauretta Spracklin and Robert Howard. Martin will be deeply missed by his extended family, dear friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Martin had a passion for travel, fishing, storytelling, and most of all, spending time with his family. Whether sharing laughter at family gatherings, enjoying time by the water, or reminiscing with lifelong friends, he treasured the simple moments that brought people together.
He will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, wit, generosity, and the unwavering love he had for his family. His legacy of service, perseverance, and devotion lives on in all who knew and loved him.
May he rest in eternal peace.
