On December 14, 2025, Mason Joseph Jackus, 25, passed away peacefully and suddenly with mom and dad by his side. He was born December 12, 2000, passing just two days after his birthday. Having profound autism, Mason was our “forever child,” a responsibility that joyfully shaped our lives as parents, partners and caregivers, family members and friends. He made us better people for it.
He loved music, swimming, coloring, elevators, collecting hair clippers and shirts in every color of the rainbow, all dogs and cats, and (sometimes) butterflies. He also loved bouncing on his exercise ball while listening to music, or watching Baby Einstein videos, Toy Story or Happy Feet. Mason was happiest when he was on the go. He enjoyed playing basketball, bowling, and baseball with the Special Olympics and The Miracle League or simply shopping with mom and dad. Weekend breakfast outings were always a favorite, and a pizza or cheeseburger and fries whenever the opportunity presented itself – with a side of ranch dressing, of course. And when the world needed to slow down, snuggles were mandatory. Oddly enough, Mason always loved visiting the doctor’s office, and for his birthday would regularly request a “flu shot.” Having limited speech, Mason found a sense of calm through repeating familiar things that he liked, waking mom and dad nightly at 12am to repeat the words “Dairy Queen” until we said it back to him – letting us know what he wanted for lunch the next day. Mason always loved holding our hands. Mom would often tease dad walking hand-in-hand with his much larger son in public, but they really didn’t mind. In the end, we were blessed to have been by his side when he took his first breaths and to have been holding his hands while he took his last.
Mason was born and raised in Easton, Pennsylvania and graduated from Freedom High School with the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 from whom he received years of love and attention. He also attended RHD of Bethlehem with many caring members who helped support his adult development.
Today, we are confident Mason is safe and secure in Heaven, happily fishing with his poppy, George Jackus Sr. He is survived by his mother, Tracie Jackus; father, George Jackus Jr.; and brother, Quinn Jackus; his loving nanny, Margaret Jackus; grandmother, Gail Dauscher; step-grandfather, Don Mette; and grandfather, Bruce Siegel Sr., along with his extended family of uncles, aunts and cousins: Bruce and Jennifer Siegel (Mylie and Sebastian); Stephen and Dawn Galambos (Alexander); Dean and Cindy Emeigh (Sophie and Griffin); and many family and friends who love him and will miss him greatly. Rest in Peace. We all love you, Mason.
