Edward Francis Toohey, 82, died of natural causes in Easton, Pennsylvania, on April 21, 2024. The third of four children, he was born on September 30, 1941, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late William P. and Catherine L. Toohey. His childhood in Newark included friendship with the Richardson family, the oldest daughter of whom, Anne, he would marry in 1966. Ed earned both bachelors and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from the former Newark College of Engineering, now NJIT. Career opportunities led the young family to Lynnfield, Massachusetts, where they spent happy decades raising two sons and a daughter. After a distinguished career in systems engineering in the defense industry at Lockheed Martin, TASC, and BAE Systems, Ed enjoyed a well-earned retirement in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Anne Richardson Toohey; son Michael Toohey and his wife Karen, their children, Devin Toohey and Katherine (Katie) Toohey; son John Toohey and his wife Clare; daughter Mary Beth Cavanaugh and her husband Thomas (Tom) Cavanaugh Jr., and their daughters, Erin Cavanaugh and Margaret (Meg) Cavanaugh. Ed is preceded in death by his siblings, Kathleen, James, and William.

A private memorial service will be held at Precious Blood Of Christ Church, Pawleys Island, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Association (https://act.alz.org) are warmly appreciated.
